While it is very hard to find good free Pocket PC software, there has been one application that has been around for many years and does what it is designed to do extremely well. I am talking about Pocket e-Sword. This is my favourite free Pocket PC application.

Pocket e-Sword is a bible reader in which you can install multiple add-ins, such as many popular bible versions & translations, commentaries, bible dictionaries and even a bible encyclopedia. All of these add-ons work very well together allowing you to check the various commentaries on the verse you are reading, so you can get a better understanding.

If you install everything that is available, you may need multiple storage cards. The application and a bible of your choice do not use up much space but the commentaries and especially the encyclopedia fill up your device fast.

The feature list is too long to mention here but a few of the highlights are:

Search features.. this is very quick, useful and accurate
Ability to schedule bible readings.. i.e Read the bible in a year
Parallel views.. so you can view multiple verses from various bibles side by side
Ability to highlight verses you want to refer to later
There are no features I want it to do that it doesn’t do.

There are a few add-ins you can purchase on the site but I have never had the desire or need to look at any of these as there is so much free stuff.

Pocket e-Sword can replace numerous books you may currently take to church or bible study, allowing you to have all this information with you on hand, or in your pocket. Available for free download from e-sword.net.
