Windows XP Software: The Video Screensaver Powertoy
I missed the hype about Video Screensaver when it was released almost 3 years ago, and I am yet to see it run on anyones desktop.
Video Screensaver is not listed on the regular Powertoy website. A few years late, I will post about it anyway.
Video screensaver works the same as any other screensaver you would use in Windows XP, only this time you are not limited to the boring Windows and Marquee options.
Video Screensaver lets you play any video file that Windows Media Player supports as your screensaver. I can see this being very useful if you have a collection of comedy clips somewhere on your computer. The default video is pretty decent though.
You can select your own folder from which the clips are taken from. You can choose to randomise or mute the clips. While you can’t move forwards and backwards through clips as the screensaver is on, you wouldn’t expect to be able to as it is not a Media Player. It could give you a little chuckle as you return back to your desk after a stressful meeting.
There is no support for dual monitors with this one.
This cannot be installed in Vista, but you can achieve the same thing, with dual monitor support, by using the pre-installed photos screensaver.
Available for free from deep within the Microsoft Website.
