Windows sort of: Cute Partition Manager

Cutepart

I was looking for a copy of fdisk to remove a hidden partition from a hard drive. I searched for a few minutes in my disks folder and realised I did not have a copy. I looked online and found that I needed to copy it from an older version of Windows which I did not have. I also did not have any Windows disk on hand as I was doing a network install, so the search started for a tool that would allow me to delete the partition.

I quickly came across a bundle of commercial options and one free partition manager called Cute Partition Manager. While it didn’t look like much from the screenshots, it did look like it would do what I wanted. It was my first day in a new job and my boss was searching too, so there was a little competition and pressure to impress.

I downloaded the software and loaded it up in Windows. You get the option to create a boot floppy or a boot CD. Cute Partition Manager looks after this efficiently, creating the disk for you.

After booting to the CD, the screen came up similar to the screenshot above. I was easily able to delete, resize and create partitions as I needed. Cute Partition Manager was really easy to use.

You should take a lot of caution using this tool though as you can easily destroy your current partitions with the press of two buttons, making Windows unbootable. Cute Partition Manger will let you resize partitions, just don’t expect you data to be there afterwards.

Cute Partition Manager is an ideal tool if you are setting up a new computer. You would be best to use the software that is inbuilt to Windows/Linux/MAC if the operating system is already on your computer.

Available for free from their website. All computer techs should have a copy of this one in their disk folder.
