Weekly Roundup: April 27th, 2008

28 Apr, 2008 Roundup

This week at Inspect My Gadget… and a bit more

The articles…

How-to: Schedule your backup and sync programs to run when vista is idle: This guide will show you how to use Windows Task Scheduler to launch any of your backup and sync programs, when your computer is idle. Not only does this automate any sync and backup process, it makes the process not interfere with your computer usage.

How-to: Access multiple email accounts through the one Exchange account: If you are lucky enough to have access to an Exchange email server, you are able to bring all the mail from your other email accounts into it. This will save you from looking at various email accounts each time you check your mail. This is especially useful if you use Outlook Web Access or your mobile phone, to receive your mail.

Re-inspection:

  • How-to: Synchronise your IE favorites with your Windows Mobile Pocket PC (WM5)
  • How-to: Buy a new computer
  • How-to: Synchronise two computers My Documents folders using offline files
  • How-to: Use your computer to alert you of incoming calls via Bluetooth (WM5)

IMG Quickie: Get control of your PowerPoint presentations: This article shows you a number of ways to control PowerPoint Presentations. There is even a nice tweak to make the right click move back a slide, instead of bringing up a grey context menu over the top of your presentation. This is great in the case you have someone else clicking through the slides.

IMG Face-Off: Best free program to undelete deleted files: I looked at a number of utilities that would undelete deleted files. Out of the four I tested, three of them had similar results, garbled numbers for filenames, and fewer results than the final program I tested. NTFS Undelete won out as it gave a long list of very files, including some very old files, which undeleted without error.

Windows Mobile: Control your device from your PC with My Mobiler: My Mobiler will bring up your Pocket PCs screen on your desktop or laptop screen. You can then control it using your keyboard and mouse. There are snapshot and movie capture modes, some very handy shortcuts, and it also has a great drag and drop file transfer feature. This was treat for me when I found it. My Mobiler works really well.
